Russell Waycott began his career with Nova Scotia Pulp following graduation from the University of New Brunswick. Russ directed the company’s engineering and forestry efforts and incorporated new technologies and research for mechanical harvesting and silviculture. These innovations improved production, safety and competitiveness while advancing the industry’s considerations for water, soils, wildlife habitat, social and cultural values, and conservation. Russ led the Woodlands Unit to become the first forest company in Canada to have an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, both CSA and SFI forest certifications, and the FSC Maritime Standard for sustainable forest management. Russ supported and enacted many initiatives including the Atlantic Master Logger Program, First Nations participation in the company’s forest harvesting and silviculture, and private land silviculture funding with the N.S. Landowners and Forest Producers Association. Russ has been President of the Forest Products Association of N.S. and the N.S. Forestry Association.
